Happy 4th of July!
The 4th of July, 1776 is a day that represents our "Declaration of Independence" from Great Britain. It's our birthday as a nation.
But many don't know that the American revolution actually began in April of 1775. The first draft of the Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson in June of 1776. The Continental Congress decided to declare our independence on July 2, 1776 and finished debating and writing it on the 4th of July, 1776. It wasn't actually officially "signed" until August 2, 1776 and it wasn't delivered to Great Britain until November of 1776. So, I guess we can keep celebrating our independence for a while!
